This is a kogatana by Miyagi Akimori, whose real name is Shinichi and who resides in Ohatake, Shiraishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. Born in 1925, he studied under Miyagi Morikuni and Kurihara Hikosaburo Akihide, winning numerous awards including a gold medal at the 1943 Japanese Sword Exhibition and the Chairman's Award at the 1944 Army Sword Exhibition. He was designated an intangible cultural property of Shiraishi City in 1983 and received a cultural education achievement award from the Miyagi Prefectural Board of Education in 1988. The kogatana comes with a black ishime-nuri saya koshirae.
