NihontoWatchNihontoWatchバックシャン（後ろ姿美人）、懐かしい言葉だ。昭和生まれだって知らない人もいるかもしれない。四分一地容彫の寿老人は穏やかな笑みをたたえて正面を向いている。素銅地容彫の鹿は目線を上にした後ろ姿ですっくと立っている。内側から高く強く打ち出されたふっくらとしたお尻に短く可愛らしい尻尾。頭の天辺のつむじから始まる極細の毛彫りが全身に廻らされ、滑らかな毛皮の質感を表している。寿老は四分一地容彫。生き生きとした、思わず釣り込まれそうな笑顔だ。長い頭を覆う布には花唐草の平象嵌。衣の模様は片切彫と毛彫りを併用した唐花唐草模様。金玉堂弘貞は打越弘寿の門人。表裏それぞれの際端に堂々と、丁寧に銘が刻されている。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
