NihontoWatchNihontoWatch時代の上がる赤坂鐔特有の大振りで頗る厚手の造り込みであるにもかかわらず、すっきりと垢抜けた印象なのは優れた意匠故であろう。鋸の歯のように鋭い彫口の葉を下に配し上部は柔らかに揺れる桐の花。それらを囲むのは不規則に変化する菊花形の耳という硬軟の見事な調和である。良く鍛えられた地鉄は力強く錆色も深い。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
