NihontoWatch沖光(おきみつ)刀匠は昭和三年生まれで、本名を原寛という。打刃物業「隠岐沖光刃物」を営む父角太郎の傍らで鍛冶の手伝いをして育ち、長じて鍛刀技術を修得。戦中は陸軍受命刀工を拝命した父を援けて刃味優れた軍刀を鍛造し、戦後は、打刃物の家業に励む傍ら、備前古作、わけても鎌倉時代の長光を研究し、互の目丁子出来の作を手掛けている。 表題の脇差は現代刀には珍しい鎬造で、沖光刀匠得意の長光写しの一振。

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
