NihontoWatchNihontoWatchOuka-sukashi Tsuba 変り形 鉄地 肉彫 地透 角耳小肉 In paulownia wood box 政富は、長州(山口県)の鍔工で江戸後期の人物である。彦兵衛と言い、その家計の六代目当主で文化十四年(1817)二月二十八日に功績によって米二石を加増されて以来、三人扶持(一人扶持は一日玄米五合)の二石三斗を賜るようになる。この地には、十二家ほどの鍔工集団がいて鍔も貿易品の一つで藩の財政を潤していた。本作は、鉄地に桜花を肉彫地透とし葉脈は毛彫で細かく仕上げている。「花は桜木、人は武士」と散り際の良さから日本人に親しまれ国花となっている。長州岡田政富の優鍔として御紹介致します。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
