Description

Weight: 768g (toshin only) It has arrived—a precious meito by the famous smith Fujiwara Yoshihisa, the exclusive swordsmith for the renowned Hayashibara Museum of Art in Okayama Prefecture. Bitchu no Kuni-ju Fujiwara Yoshihisa, real name Fujimoto Yoshihisa, entered apprenticeship under the Tokyo smith Yoshihara Yoshindo. Later, he was welcomed into the sword forging dojo of the Hayashibara Museum of Art, where he studied under his senior, the smith Ono Yoshimitsu. As a formal employee of Hayashibara Co., Ltd., he was entrusted solely with the mission of leaving meito for future generations. Under an environment where the finest materials and togishi (polishing) could be used abundantly regardless of cost, he is famous as a smith who devoted his days to forging only masterpieces intended to endure for posterity. He is a master craftsman who dedicated himself to recreating the Bizen-den Ichimonji koto of the Kamakura period and has won numerous awards at the Shinsaku Meito Ten (New Masterpiece Sword Exhibition). The sugata of this katana shows a Bizen koshi-zori (curvature at the waist) with a distinct difference between the motohaba and sakihaba, presenting a fine tachi-sugata. The jigane is itame-hada mixed with mokume-hada, possessing a moist luster, and the horimono features masterfully carved futasuji-hi. The hamon is nioi-deki with konie, featuring gunome-choji and gorgeous juka-choji-ba fired high, with ashi and yo entering the blade well, creating a magnificent and spirited edge. This is a masterpiece of total devotion by Bitchu no Kuni-ju Yoshihisa, who has brilliantly recreated the flamboyant style of Bizen no Kuni Ichimonji; he has created here a meito that should become a national treasure of Japan in the future. The motome-mei (ordered signature) of Mr. Yamaguchi refers to a local prominent figure. Please enjoy this masterpiece Bizen Ichimonji-utsushi by the smith Yoshihisa, the Hayashibara Museum's exclusive smith, which would normally never appear on the open market.
