NihontoWatchThis is a contemporary katana made by swordsmith Maezono Yasunori located in Higo, Saga province, and inscribed in October, 1986. The blade features a straight tempered-line pattern and comes in complete ornate mountings including a Tsuba guard designed with gold flowers. The scabbard is beautifully finished with ray-skin wrapping at the bottom.

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
