NihontoWatchNihontoWatchA traditional Mito school theme, either a fisherman or ferry boatman. 3.5 cm x 1.2 cm / 3.5 cm x 1.5 cm. Shakudo gold ad silver. Excellent condition. This is a very popular poetic motif in late Edo and Meiji period art representing a calm journey or worldly transition. I have been doing this for more than sixty years, and thisis the first time I have encountered menuki with this motif.
