This is an unsigned kozuka from the middle Edo period, depicting a scene from 'The Tale of the Heike' showing the Heike clan's flight from the capital to the western provinces. The design features a boat carrying courtiers, ladies, children, and luggage, rendered in high relief with intricate details in gold, silver, and shakudo against a suaka ground. The reverse is a simple polished suaka, enhancing the detailed narrative on the front.
