The Soten school of Hikone in Omi province gave its name to "Hikone-bori" — densely worked tsuba depicting warriors, battle scenes, and Chinese legend in elaborate openwork and inlay. Highly decorative and instantly recognizable, Soten guards were popular in their own day and remain an engaging, narrative-rich field for collectors.
