Kamakura Period Tachi for Sale
The tachi IS the sword of the Kamakura period: worn edge-down by mounted warriors, it is the form in which the golden age did its finest work. Surviving examples divide sharply — rare ubu (unshortened) blades preserving their original nakago and signature, and suriage works whose shape still records the deep koshi-zori curvature of the era. Either way, a Kamakura tachi places its owner closest to the schools — Ichimonji, Osafune, Awataguchi, Rai — that defined Japanese swordmaking at its height.
