This wakizashi, though unsigned, is attributed to Arikoto (Chigusa Arikoto Kyo) based on a Waka poem carved on the blade. Arikoto, a passionate individual born in 1797, was a master of various arts and also studied sword forging under Nankai Taro Asason. The blade features a beautiful jigane with prominent hada patterns and a bright, nioiguchi-rich hamon, accompanied by a koshirae that includes a kozuka with Arikoto's poem and a tsuba depicting a rabbit under the moon, hinting at the Yōkyoku Chikubushima.

For two and a half centuries of peace the sword was the warrior’s legal badge rather than his weapon. Each great city developed its own manner, Edo’s tested strength against Ōsaka’s polished brilliance, until demand thinned in the era’s last decades.
