This is a Hira-zukuri wakizashi signed by Kaneaki, known as Takatenjin Kaneaki. It was forged in Totoumi province around the Tenbun era (1532-1555) during the late Muromachi period. The blade features OmoteUra 'Bo-hi' and 'Hoso-hi' kaki-toshi carvings, a gold-foiled single Habaki, and comes in a shirasaya with a sayagaki inscription by Dr. Sato Kanzan. It is certified Hozon by the NBTHK.

Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit.
