Description

Weight (excluding saya): 911g Tosho Yoshihiro’s real name is Seto Yoshihiro. Born in Showa 21 (1946) and originally from Itoshima District, Fukuoka Prefecture. After graduating from Kurume University, he became a student of the Living National Treasure tosho Sumitani Masamine, becoming a master craftsman in his own right. He has received the Kanzan Prize (Special Prize) at the Shinsaku Meito Ten (New Masterpiece Sword Exhibition), as well as numerous Awards of Excellence, Effort Awards, and Encouragement Awards. He is a master craftsman representing Japan. This katana exhibits a sugata with a distinct difference between the motohaba and sakihaba. The jigane shows an itame hada resembling koto, being well-forged with portions of masame hada appearing. Near the habaki-moto on the ura side, there is a small uchi-ato (hammer mark); this is a mark left by the disciple’s mukou-zuchi during the forging process, serving as charming evidence of its hand-crafted creation. The hamon is a reproduction of Kamakura period Bitchu Aoe work, featuring a suguha base with gunome and nijuba running along the edge. Within the ha, there are many active elements such as gunome-ashi and sunagashi, creating a powerful and spirited blade. His master, Living National Treasure Sumitani Masamine, devoted his life to the study of Kamakura period swords; Yoshihiro has also succeeded here in reproducing the jigane of ancient Kamakura blades, creating a sword that looks remarkably antique. We are offering this sword by the Mukansa tosho Yoshihiro at a special discount price. Please enjoy this piece.
