Total length 45.5cm, *nagasa* 27.5cm. While I have previously seen Navy *tanken*, police *tanken*, and ceremonial guard *tanken*, this firefighter's *tanken* is unprecedented and wonderfully precious. The fact that the tip of the *tanken* blade is shaped like a *tobiguchi* (fireman's hook) truly marks it as a firefighter's *tanken*. Judging by the inclusion of the *maru-ni-yotsumebishi* (four-eyed diamond in a circle) *kamon*, it is an heirloom of noble lineage. Originally, this is a *tanken* that would not be out of place in a Fire Department museum. However, as this rare firefighter's *tanken* was found within a father's collection, we have been entrusted to pass it on at a low price to someone with an interest. Therefore, we are offering it at a specially discounted price. Please enjoy this precious firefighter's *tanken*.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
