This is a set of fuchi-kashira and menuki depicting scenes from the Battle of Ichinotani, a famous conflict from the Genpei War. The fuchi and kashira feature warriors fighting amidst rocky mountains, rendered in high-relief carving with intricate inlays and colorwork on their armor. The menuki portray Kumagai Naozane and Taira no Atsumori on horseback, captured with skillful engraving, creating a vivid three-dimensional representation of a tense battlefield moment. This well-preserved set from the late Edo period showcases excellent metalwork and composition.
