Specifications
24.3 cm
This is a tanto by Kanemune of the Tegai school, the largest branch of the Yamato Goha. Dated to the early Muromachi period, it exhibits the characteristic thick construction of Yamato tanto. The blade features a well-tightened suguha hamon with yo, a pointed boshi with kaeri, and a finely forged jigane. While there is a minor forging flaw near the monouchi, it is generally a well-preserved and excellent example, especially rare for a signed Yamato tanto, and comes with a valuable koshirae featuring matching fittings.
