This is a tsuba by Kotetsu, who was originally an armor maker and excelled in iron forging, producing robust and simple tsuba. This piece, though simple in its thick, round iron construction, displays a powerful grain pattern on its surface and rim, reminiscent of a turbulent, frothing sea. The iron has a deep black color with a subdued luster, conveying a strong and sturdy impression.
