Description

This antique menuki from the Edo period features a Musha Zu (武者図) motif, depicting samurai warriors on a battlefield, likely inspired by the Genpei War. Made of shakudō, an alloy of copper and gold, it originally had kin-iroe (gold overglaze) applications, enhancing its elegant bluish-black patina. The menuki showcases the stern expressions and courageous appearances of high-ranking samurai engaged in combat on small boats.
