Description

This antique Menuki from the Edo period features a motif of the Ōsode (big sleeve) of Katchu (Samurai armor), specifically designed to protect the shoulder and upper arm. Made of Shakudou, an alloy of copper and gold, the intricate pattern is beautifully engraved using gold and black colors. This piece would have served both a practical and decorative purpose on a Japanese sword hilt.
