The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This modern katana was crafted by Fujiwara Motohisa of Mikawa Province, a smith whose work was cherished by Taisaburo Nakamura of the Toyama-ryu school. Despite its wide blade, it is thin and well-balanced, making it light in hand and suitable for iaido and tameshigiri. The koshirae is in good condition with a newly wrapped tsuka-maki, ready for immediate use.
