This is a wakizashi made by Fujiwara Yukinaga of the Takada school in Bungo province during the early Edo period. The blade has a length of 40.0cm and features a well-forged itame hada and a bright hamon with ashi and yo. It comes with a shirasaya and a gold foil habaki, and is accompanied by a Tokubetsu Hozon Token certificate from the NBTHK.

For two and a half centuries of peace the sword was the warrior’s legal badge rather than his weapon. Each great city developed its own manner, Edo’s tested strength against Ōsaka’s polished brilliance, until demand thinned in the era’s last decades.
