NihontoWatchNihontoWatch小さめの本体に少し控えめに描かれた梔子の実を、葉の中に思わず探してしまいました。小振りな姿に高潔で一歩下がった品位を感じます。背も低いので、おとなしい静のイメージかと思いきや、彫が予想を裏切ってくれます。狭い厚みの中で、深い彫と繊細な所作で各部位の質感を作り上げているところが、この目貫の見所でしょうか。特に実の表現力は巧さが光ります。鑑定書では赤銅地としていますが、色合をよく観察すると赤みが強く、おそらく山銅だと思われますが、何とも判別し難い色合です。 これを着けた短刀は、さぞかし粋な印象を演出したことでしょう・・・と、想像したのは、おそらく出し目貫として使われたと思われるからです。裏面を見ると、高さ合せに裾を削ったと思われる所作が、表目貫の右に伸びる梢に確認できるのです。本作が作られたのは江戸初期と推測できますが、この所作はいつの時代かは判りません。最初から調整したのか、後から合せたのか・・・そんなことを想像したくなる本作は、小振りながらも煌めく魅力を放つ一品です。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
