Description

This tsuba features a design of clematis and butterflies on an ajiro (wickerwork) background. It is unsigned and attributed to the Sendai-kinko school from Mutsu province, dating to the late Edo period. The piece showcases intricate high-relief carving on an oboro-gin ground, with delicate flat inlays on the butterfly wings, characteristic of Sendai-kinko artists like Kusakari Kiyosada.
