NihontoWatchNihontoWatchFeatures: This vertically oval iron tsuba depicts a figure holding a bowl, rendered in high relief carving with gold inlay. Comment: Smoke appears to be rising from the bowl in the figure's hands. Perhaps the figure is enjoying a cup of tea, or perhaps they are lost in thought as they watch the smoke rising from something he have burned, an object holding cherished memories. We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
