This is a beautiful Inro from the Edo period or early Meiji Era, dating to the 19th century. It features a kinji ground decorated with gold and slight coloured takamaki-e, gold hiramaki-e, kirikane, and Shibayama style. The faces of Fukurokuju and a boy are crafted in ivory and amber turtleshell, and the piece is signed 'Shokusai' with a mother of pearl seal.
