NihontoWatchNihontoWatchA review of the Items/ Monthly magazine "Ginza Joho" これは鞘書に伝わる旧銘の記録であり、現在確認できる銘ではない。しかし、刀姿と地鉄に現れる応永備前の趣を鑑賞するとき、明治の鞘書が語る由緒は、ひときわ興味深い。 明治二十五年鞘書。旧銘「備州長舩康光」・應永廿四年八月日紀。「全備無類ノ上作」と称え、龍図尽しの拵を製作し大切に保持する旨を記す。 刃長は二尺二寸九分三厘、約六九・五センチ。身幅は尋常ながら重ねが厚く、腰反りは高く付いて中鋒に結ぶ。表裏に棒樋を掻き通した姿には、太刀を想わせる古雅な趣が漂う。 華奢ではなく、芯の強さを感じさせる姿。それでいて全体の線は美しく、応永備前の刀を連想させる。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
