It has arrived, it has arrived—a masterpiece by the swordsmith Higo Yatsushiro-ju Fujiwara Naoyuki, who adorned the brilliant end of the Higo Dotanuki school in Kyushu during the Bakumatsu period. Naoyuki was a fellow disciple of the Bakumatsu Dotanuki Munehiro and was active around the Tenpo era (1835) at the end of the Edo period (189 years ago). The sugata of this katana features koshi-zori with funbari at the moto, exhibiting a tachi-style shape where there is a distinct difference between the moto-mihaba and saki-mihaba. Do not be surprised by the jigane, which is forged in a complete masame-hada. The hamon is composed in nioi-deki with konie, featuring small gunome-ba that point toward the ji in a sharp, pointed fashion; it is a spirited blade that looks exceptionally sharp and is truly magnificent. Near the moto, in an area hidden by the habaki, there are traces of the forging process—this is a charming "trademark" often seen in the sturdy, stout swords of the Kyushu Dotanuki school, known for their shitsujitsu-goken (unaffected and sincere) character. The koshirae is a matching issaku-koshirae with dragon motifs from that period, which adds further splendor to this Dotanuki sword. On this occasion, an elderly connoisseur has entrusted us with this piece, stating that as they have grown older, they wish to pass this precious masame-hada blade by Naoyuki—who represents the final brilliance of the Higo Dotanuki school—to the next generation at an affordable price. Therefore, we are offering it at a special bargain price comparable to a gendaito. Please take this opportunity to enjoy it.
