It has arrived, it has arrived—a katana by Noshu Seki-ju Kanemitsu, housed in a gunjinto koshirae complete with its perfect tsukabukuro. The smith of this sword, Kanemitsu of Seki, Gifu Prefecture, was born Goto Matsuzo; he was a master smith who was selected to serve as a Rikugun Jumei Toko. He is particularly famous for producing excellent swords using the renowned Yasuki hagane. Unfortunately, due to the nine-year ban on Japanese sword production from Showa 20 to Showa 29 imposed by the occupation forces following Japan's defeat, Kanemitsu did not return to swordsmithing after the war. Therefore, this sword is an important piece that proves Kanemitsu was a prestigious smith dedicated to the craft of the Japanese sword. The sugata of this sword shows a grand, powerful form with a wide motohaba, a wide sakihaba, and an extended kissaki. It is a tokubetsu chumon-hin (special order item) made using Yasuki tamahagane. The jigane is a powerfully forged ko-itame hada, and a midare-utsuri appears across the entire ji. The hamon is a magnificent togari-gunome in nioi-deki with ko-nie, fired with great spirit and skill. We received this sword from an old family whose grandfather carried this Kanemitsu into battle. Fortunately, he returned home safely, and the family has cherished it together ever since. However, as the grandchildren's generation has also grown old, they have entrusted it to us, asking that it be passed on at a low price to someone who will treasure it.
