This is a Hozon-certified katana by Fujita Akiyoshi, a renowned smith from Yamagata during the Showa period and a senior apprentice to Living National Treasure Miyairi Akihira. Forged in early Showa 19 (1944) as a special commission for an Imperial Japanese Navy officer, the blade features a well-forged ko-itame hada and gunome hamon. It comes with a superb naval military koshirae, featuring a samegawa rayskin-wrapped scabbard with a polished finish.
