This is a rare Tanto by the smith Kaneto from the Mino province, active during the turbulent Muromachi period (1504-1521). It features a Ko Nie Deki Midare hamon and Ko itame hada with komokume hada. The tanto comes with ornate Edo Period koshirae, incorporating crushed abalone shells into the lacquer, and is accompanied by double NBTHK Hozon certificates for both the blade and the mountings.
