Description

This is a superb fighting blade by Mino swordsmith Kanefusa of Noshu Seki, forged approximately 425 years ago at the very end of the Muromachi period. Originally a full-length katana, it was shortened to an o-wakizashi, making it an ideal one-handed weapon. Both the blade and its koshirae have been certified with vintage NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho papers, and it is housed in a handsome Edo-period uchigatana koshirae with a horse motif.

Authenticity not guaranteed

This work carries older NBTHK “Kichō”-era papers, which the NBTHK no longer issues and now regards as unreliable. To confirm the attribution, submission to an official Japanese examination body (such as the NBTHK or NTHK) for modern certification could be considered.
