This is a Daisho koshirae (matching set of mountings for a katana and wakizashi) featuring a distinctive saya (scabbard) wrapped in polished ray skin, creating a pattern reminiscent of plum blossoms. The fuchi (collar) is signed by Jutokusai Sukenao. Ray skin has been valued for sword mountings since ancient times due to its water resistance, and during the Edo period, kairagi tsutsumi saya were particularly favored by connoisseurs for their unique aesthetic.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
