This iron tsuba from the Soten School depicts the Battle of Uji river, a pivotal event marking the beginning of the Genpei War in 1180. The intricate design, featuring gold, silver, and copper inlays, illustrates Minamoto forces attempting to cross the river against Taira defenses. Made in the late Edo period, it is a high-quality example of Soten craftsmanship.
