The hada is ko itame and a bit of mokume with ji-nie. The hamon begins as a short yaki-dashi and becomes variations on kataochi gunome, with sunagashi and kinsuji, all in a bright nioi guchi covered in ko-nie. The boshi is straight with ko maru and a short kaeri, and strongly swept. There are 2 tiny fingernail catcher nicks in the edge just above the habaki and a few tight and short instances of coarse grain on the ura; otherwise condition is excellent. This sword is mounted with a fine solid silver habaki and in well made shirasaya, also in excellent condition. It comes with a dealer’s paper (Shibata, I’ve been told).I can’t say with certainty which smith from which school made this sword or when he worked (although late Koto may be a good guess); sorry. I can tell you he did nice work; this is quite pleasant. 1 pound, 14 ounces. $1,395.
